Creative baby Shower Ideas

In Baby, Kids by savvysassymoms3 Comments

Welcome to Savvy Sassy Moms, I’m your guest host Pamela Smerker!  I’m the owner of Party Starters a handmade event boutique.  I’ve been in the paper crafts/ party design business for the last 14 years and hope I can share some of the tips and techniques I’ve learned.  I was very surprised and honored when Andrea asked me to share some of my favorite baby shower ideas with you all so let’s get started!

THEMES:

For boys

Everything in Chocolate Brown and Baby Blue

You would think after having two boys I would be sick of the color scheme, but I feel that warm shades of brown and robin egg or baby blue are classic for a boy’s baby shower. I am not sure that I could ever get sick of that combo.

Planes, Trains and Automobiles

Come on, you know its true…boys love planes, trains or automobiles. I was shocked when my first son out of nowhere started making racecar noises…boys are born with the power to create sound effects! So what would be more appropriate than to have some toy airplanes or cars all in primary colors to spruce up this shower theme?

For girl

Sugar and Spice & everything nice

That is what little girls are made of, so why not celebrate with a Shabby Sheik Candy Shop theme. Decorate with canisters or Mason jars filled with beautiful pastel candies, such as saltwater taffy and “It’s a girl” pink bubble gum cigars. If you can find them use pink and white damask, striped or polka dotted paper products.  Bring out the good china, or mix and match old teacups and saucers to complete the vintage look.

Furry AnimalsAnimal prints and pink…you can’t go wrong with that combo. Whether it’s a zebra or a just a plain cute cuddly teddy bear, they all work great with baby pink.

Gender Neutral:

Favorite childhood stories

I love this theme; have every guest bring their favorite childhood storybook as a gift for the parents to be.  Not only do guests get to relive their childhood for a little bit, but they are also helping to start a fabulous collection of books for the new little one. Whether its, Winnie The Pooh, Dumbo, or Goodnight Moon, books are treasures and boys and girls love them!

GAME IDEAS:

As far as shower games go, you have people who love them and those who don’t. One game that I have had luck with is called “Don’t Say “Baby”. Here is what you need:

  1. Yarn or thin ribbon
  2. Some kind of baby trinket like a plastic pacifier or diaper pin. These can be found in the baby section of your local party stores.

Use the trinket as a charm and string them onto your yarn or ribbon making a necklace big enough to easily gone on and off of guests.

When guests arrive give them a necklace, tell everyone they aren’t allowed to say the word “baby” or else they forfeit their necklace to the person who catches the mistake. The winner is the person with the greatest number of necklaces at the end of the party. Its really fun to see how competitive people are while playing this game.

TIPS:

Ask the Mommy-to-be if she would like to help decide the color scheme or them of the shower. This is a special time in her life and I am sure she would love to be apart of the planning!

Start your planning approximately 4-6 weeks in advance. Get together with the guest of honor and create a guest list. Choose invites, whether they are virtual or hard copies.  What time of day will the shower be and what types of food and beverage will you serve?

Check out favors either at your local party store or online, such as www.Etsy.com. If you do decide to buy from someone on online, remember to give yourself time for favors to be made and delivered.

Last but certainly not least, get a nice notebook to write down what gift each guest brings to help the new Mommy when it comes time to write thank you notes. She will appreciate your thoughtfulness and a nice notebook can be a great keepsake!

Well there are some of my favorites and tips for baby showers. I hope I have inspired you to create a one of a kind shower!

  1. I love this idea and share it with anyone I can. love love love it…

My sister is such a planner… she had all my friends (I had about 30 in attendance at my shower) fill out cute little girly cards (I was having a little girl). On one side was a little note of encouragement to my husband and I, since this was our first… and on the other side was a note of advice as a new parent…. or just ways to stay sane during the madness. She sent them one by one in the weeks after our daughter was bord…It was so wonderful to see little notes of encouragement and just thought of sanity during the crying or laughing.

I cried and laughed EVERY time one came since they all arrived during post partum :). Still I cherished each and every single one. The best idea EVER and most dear to my heart.

  2. I love the mocktails idea, this is a fun and funky way to spruce up those baby shower party drinks. They look great and are easy to make.

The baby shower themes, as you say do not need to be overdone (that is unless you want to) simplicity is usually the key factor with baby showers and of course lots of fun.

  3. Spot on with this write-up, I seriously feel this web site needs far more
attention. I’ll probably be returning to read more, thanks for the info!
