La Costa Resort, Carlsbad California

So, last weekend I was invited down to La Costa Resort & Spa by the San Diego MomFia crew. I have to admit I thought maybe they would put a hit out on me if I didn’t show up, so I quickly RSVP’d.   I was able to invite someone and so I asked Cheryl (aka Mommy _pants) to be my roomie.  (that’s the girl in the blue dress with the fresh spray tan)

Spa Social was a networking event for online women to experience what the Spa at La Costa has to offer.  Well, it offers tranquility for one, but as well as a long list of spa services and some set in a fabulous outdoor setting.  Walking around in a robe was not required, but I thought hey why not!   About half of the attendee’s were in robes, some of us even ventured into the jacuzzi’s.  Nothing like chatting with savvy women and  sipping wine and champagne under the stars!

I woke up and went for a walk to scout the property and it’s amenities, only to discover that not only was it a chic property but it was uber kid-friendly!   What?  I clearly did not do my research before heading to La Costa.   They have several kids pools, waterslides, and even a child care center Kidtopia and a Vibz game center.  So now, I feel guilty and want to share this experience with my family.  So at 9am in the morning, I called my husband and said “Grab the swimsuits, throw the kids in the car and get down here!”

The child center takes reservations and it is a drop off facility wit ha 5:1 ratio, they provide meals and even cribs for little nappers.  They also have an after dark program from 6pm – 10pm that allows parents to have a night out by themselves.  In the summer time they also have Movies poolside.  We love to travel with our kids and when you find a place that not only willingly accepts them but caters to them, well that  gets an A+ in my Travel Savvy book!

Travel Savvy Suggestion:  Please make reservations the day before and look at the pricing before you get here.  They do get booked and it may not be in your budget.  (approx 12.50 and hour)

My savvy sassy family arrived at 1pm with their water noodles in hand!  Yes, the pools do allow water wings, flotation devices and noodles.  They even sell some pretty cool water guns, that we had to rip out of my sons hands.
There is a water play area, a kids pool with a sandy beach and a larger kids pool that is 5ft deep.  They have 2 waterslides for older kids and one smaller one that my little squirts can handled all on their own.  Poolside food and drinks are like any resort style  food and drinks, a bit pricey.   They also have a peanut butter and jelly sandwich meal for the kiddos.

They are currently undergoing a $50 million dollar renovation and my room was one of the freshly remodeled suites and it was gorgeous, very well deorated and stylish.  However, the beds were so high my kids had a hard time jumping up to get on them, but it was super fun for me to watch!

I was so impressed by La Costa we made a whole weekend out of it!  My kids had a blast and my husband and and I got to remember what it was like to actually unplug and relax for an entire weekend.  What started out as a girls night and networking event, transformed into a great family weekend – the best of both worlds!

Travel Savvy Tip:  Check in on Foursquare and get free Valet parking for one night.  Also, self parking is just a short walk, and it will save you $15 in parking per night.

Disclosure:  One night was hosted by La Costa and the second night I was given a discounted media rate to stay and play with my family.  I share this experience with my savvy readers because it is a place I would return to again.   My savvy thoughts and sassy opinions are my very own.
