Spring Fashion Finds for Under $50

10 Must-have spring style essentials under $50

1. Classic Baseball Hat

You need one for super-sunny t-ball games… or for super-rainy ones, for that matter. Ditch that old stinky hat that you run in for something a little more stylish.

2. Tassel Bracelet

Tassels aren’t just for shoes anymore! They’re so cute on bracelets and necklaces and fresh for spring.

3. Luxe Bright Lipstick

If you’re going to splurge on something for your spring wardrobe, make it a new, bright lipstick. There’s nothing better to bring some life into clothes that you’ve had for years.

4. Floppy Hat

Good for the beach, for trips to the park and for sitting down for a few minutes to read a book in the backyard (because we know a few minutes is all you’ll get with kids!). Don’t be afraid to go big!

5. Stripe T-shirt

Stripes are always in, but don’t forget to add a new striped tee to your closet each season.

6. Clubmaster Sunglasses

An updated take on aviator sunglasses, these are a fun way to add spring style accessories to your look!

7. Jogger Pants

If you haven’t jumped into this trend yet, don’t wait any longer. Jogger pants look great on everyone, they’re insanely comfortable and, when paired with the right pieces, they are very stylish, too.

8. Cognac Carryall

Cognac goes with everything. Do  yourself a favor and add a bag in this color to your wardrobe. It’s timeless and season-less.

9. Denim Jacket

If you live somewhere that’s warm year-round, you probably already have a go-to denim jacket. But, if you don’t we suggest one in a lighter color to fit into your spring wardrobe. You’ll have it for years!

10. Gladiator Sandal

Always in style and always available in fresh, new styles each spring, a gladiator sandal is going to be your on-the-go sandal for spring.

White Jeans Guide for Moms this Spring

Ever wonder how to wear white jeans? This is our guide to white jeans… for the everyday mom. With our help, white jeans will quickly become part of your spring uniform! We have everything you’ll need to pair with your white jeans — six tops and six pairs of shoes — as well as our favorite six pairs of white jeans to get your collection started.

SIX TOPS FOR WHITE JEANS

6 Tops for white jeans

Tunic tops

Tunic tops are easy to throw on, long enough to keep everything covered while wrestling your children into the car, and often embellished for added beauty.

Printed t-shirts

Printed tee shirts are more forgiving than your standard solid ones. Find one made of a blend with a small percentage of Spandex to ensure it keeps it’s shape all day long.

Lightweight sweaters

Spring temperatures can vary from coast-to-coast, so you may need a sweater on the heavier side to wear with your white jeans. A lightweight sweater in a soft or bright color is the answer for you!

Textured blouses

Try texture — lace, eyelet, metallic thread, beading, jewels, zippers. Clothing, especially tops, are so much more interesting when they have dimension. And also, very flattering.

Gingham

People are still crazy for gingham. It’s cute, classic, and all around fun. A button-up is simple and versatile. Pair this top from J.Crew Factory with a pair of white jeans and the compliments will be plentiful.

Fun sweatshirts

You don’t want to wear your husband’s old, oversized college sweatshirt, but a semi-fitted sweatshirt in a fun color, print, or maybe even one with lace would be a super great outfit for school pickup!

6 SHOES FOR WHITE JEANS

6 Shoes for white jeans

Suede wedges or heels

Light-colored suede is a smart way to make the transition from winter to spring. You can find tan or grey suede in almost every retail store right now. Wedges, heels, sandals, flats, booties… all look fantastic with white jeans.

Animal print flats

Instead of leopard print, try snakeskin flats with your white jeans and don’t be afraid to treat them as a neutral color. Snakeskin can go with almost anything!

Cognac leather booties, sandals or wedges

Cognac leather is warm and gorgeous. Whether you go with a bootie, mule or sandal, you will be able to wear these all spring and throughout the summer, too.

Colored sneakers

Who knew sneakers could be so stylish? These are a must-have right now and a perfect match for white jeans.

Metallic flats, loafers, sneakers, or espadrilles

Silver, gold, rose gold, or bronze… metallic is in! Try a gold or silver closed-toe espadrille with your white jeans and a chambray shirt.

Spring is the perfect time to add new life to your closet and these 10 fantastic staple pieces will let you go ahead and start transitioning your wardrobe from spring to summer. From denim dresses to pendent necklaces, each of these items will be a stylish choice for your everyday life.

10 Closet staples for spring
1. Stripes

The shirt shown is by J.Crew for Net-A-Porter, but also look at places like Target or Forever 21 for striped t-shirts, sweaters and even tanks.

2. Midi skirt

If you have not tried the midi trend yet, you’ll be amazed by how long they make your legs look! Yes, it’s true. The midi I chose for this post is a super steal at just over $14 and I love it. I can see it with a blouse or a t-shirt, heels or flats… the possibilities are endless.

3. Trench

I love a classic long trench coat, but I fell in love with this short swing trench from J.Crew as a fresh new spin for spring. It is made of poplin and is just so versatile. This jacket would be a terrific addition to any closet.

4. Denim dress

Denim dresses are everywhere this season! This dress from Zara stood out to me, mostly because of the v-neck — which is flattering on most everyone — and the beautiful embellishment on the front. I’ve also seen great choices at Gap, Old Navy, Forever 21, and Target, so be sure to shop around.

5. Gladiator sandal

Gladiator sandals are still in style. My favorite pick is the Lowell flat by Tory Burch, but if you’re looking for a steal try one of these: Mossimo Wendi, Barbados Thong by Mia, or the Selma by Circus for Sam Edelman.

6. Lace

Lace, in general, is very feminine and beautiful, making it a great choice for spring. How can you not feel gorgeous wearing it? Try adding lace to your closet with a blouse like this one from J.Crew or a pullover from Anthropologie for a more casual look.

7. Perforated flats

Menswear is still a hot item on lists of trends, including for this spring. I am not a huge fan of loafers, because I was a child of the the ’90s when Eastland penny loafers were “the thing” to wear. But, I have completely jumped on board with the slip-on sneaker and perforated flat version of this trend. They are a nice change from ballet flats, still giving us a closed toe without having to wear socks. It’s a win-win! Many stores and designers have shoes in this style out right now and at every price point, from Payless to Neiman Marcus.

8. White jeans

White jeans, I love you with all of my heart. I love you in the spring with a dark sweater and into fall with riding boots. They are a clean, classic look. Your closet wants white jeans! Try a straight, slim fit like these.

9. Pendant necklace

From shiny gold to wooden beads, you can wear pendant necklaces with just about anything! And, you can find them everywhere right now — Instagram flash sales, Etsy, local boutiques, and most major retailers. Find one you love and I guarantee you will find yourself wearing it daily.

10. Chic carryall

Over-sized carryalls give you functionality and style in one. Whether heading to the office, park, or out to dinner, you can keep everything you might need on hand without compromising a chic look.

Whether you add one or all then of these staples to your closet this spring, take the time to find a style that fits you and wear it with confidence.

Looks we still love and totally work for Spring 2014

Forget the adage that you can only wear trends the first time around. In fact, we are sending you on a fashion flashback! Jump in the DeLorean and visit your elementary school, teen and college years to again rock these styles that work for Spring 2014. Call it a mixtape of retro style coolness that still rocks today.

Felicity’s backpack

Admit it: You still think Felicity Porter is the epitome of casual cool, and her backpack was the perfect combo of preppy and post-grunge. Swap out your usual purse or diaper bag for a leather or vegan pleather knapsack for fashion/function/Felicity style. In fact, leather backpacks were all the rage on the Spring 2014 runways!

90210 Dark floral dresses

Whether you were Team Brenda or Kelly, you know that both gals (and even dark horses Donna Martin and Andrea Zuckerman) rocked an early ’90s dark floral babydoll like none other. To keep the look current, look for floral dresses with a fitted waist and lengths at or above the knee (“granny dress” bagginess and drooping hemlines do figures no favors.) Pair with a nude sandal instead of the Docs you would have worn back in the day. Your personal Dylan McKay will love.

1. Petal Palette Tunic Dress at Anthropologie
2. Retro Floral Fit and Flare Dress at Forever 21
3. Floral Print Dress at Zara
4. Floral Pintuck Skater Dress at ASOS

 denise-huxtable-hats

Denise Huxtable hats

We could wax for hours on the creative coolness of Lisa Bonet as Denise Huxtable on The Cosby Show. Most of the ensembles she wore would still look great today and have come full-circle in fashion. Statement necklaces with ethnic flair? Wearing! Oversized yet cropped sweaters? Check! Scarves twisted around the head or neck? Yup! But Denise is most remembered for the way she could work a hat, and wide-brimmed fedora styles are all the rage for spring. Pair with wild hair, and DVR The Cosby Show and A Different World reruns for endless style inspo.

1. Felt Fedora at Urban Outfitters
2. TopShop Fedora at Nordstrom
3. Leather-Trimmed Rancher at Anthropologie
4. Wide Brimmed Hat Zara
