I have always been a big advocate for babywearing (yay for having two hands available!) and skin-to-skin contact while your little one is a newborn. Skin-to-skin contact for newborns/infants is so beneficial for both mom and baby. A short list of the benefits include: accelerates brain development, reduces crying/stress, regulates body temperature, improves quality of sleep, encourages good breastfeeding habits, and synchronizes heart rate and breathing. For mom, you can enjoy the fact that skin-to-skin contact with your baby will help you with better milk production, reduce the risk of postpartum depression, and promote psychological well-being. All amazing reasons to practice skin-to-skin contact!
But skin-to-skin contact can be very difficult to practice regularly when you have other children and obligations at home. When I gave birth to Tatum, she was my only child, and I had ample time to lay with her and enjoy skin-to-skin contact. I wasn’t trucking other children off to activities, school, etc. and making lunches and washing loads upon loads of laundry. I was concerned about how I was going to balance my new baby’s need of skin-to-skin contact yet ensuring Tatum is also taken care of, I was so happy to be given the opportunity to try the NuRoo Pocket baby-wearing shirt!
The NuRoo Pocket is a shirt that is designed for you to wear during pregnancy and post-partum. The “cross and hug” velcro closures provide a custom fit as your body changes and as your baby grows. There’s a cute support belt included that mom can wear during pregnancy and post-delivery for back and belly support. It’s an awesome multi-tasking top: it can be worn as a maternity, baby wearing or nursing shirt.
This shirt combines two things that are amazingly beneficial for your baby: babywearing, and skin-to-skin contact. Rather than having to tie on or clip together a wrap or carrier while you’re on your own at home with other kiddos running around, the NuRoo Pocket makes it easy for you to wrap your baby and get on with your day. Simply open up your NuRoo, place your baby on your chest with their legs in the interior pocket, adjust the “cross and hug” closures for your perfect fit, and put on the support belt under baby’s bottom for additional support. Babies love to be near their mamas, and babywearing is one of the best ways to achieve that. We all know how important skin-to-skin is, but when you have other children it’s not realistic to be spending all of your time in bed with your newborn. Having the NuRoo Pocket to combine both babywearing and skin-to-skin while you’re on the go is the perfect way to give your baby the amazing benefits those provide while attending to your other children and life in general.
I have been wearing this for the past two weeks as a maternity shirt and I love it! I love that it’s adjustable so my rapidly growing belly can fit into it every time I put it on, it’s stylish and the fabric is so comfortable. I can’t wait to put it to use further when our baby comes to practice the benefits of skin-to-skin and babywearing!
