Keeping up with current fashion trends can be very expensive. As moms, we love our leggings and yoga pants for around the house. Still, we want to look good when we have the opportunity to get out and interact with other adults. Working parents have the added challenge of creating a fashionable wardrobe for the office without breaking the bank. Finding online deals takes stress out of shopping for fashionable clothes.

Best online deals for clothes

Consider buying used items

People without children can probably find time to search through items at consignment stores. However, parents often find the only time they can shop online is after the kids go to bed. The good news is just because we’re shopping with our devices instead of our feet, we can still find great deals on gently used items.

There are many options for finding used clothing online. One of the most well-known sites to use for buying all sorts of things is eBay, and they have listings for pretty much anything. Their site provides a variety of ways to limit your search, so you can find the size, brand, or even color that you want. The downside to eBay is that the listings will include many outdated items.

Online shoppers can find more recent clothing items for sale on sites like thredUP. If you’re looking for something like a special occasion dress, you can also save money by renting designer dresses through sites like Rent the Runway.

Search for coupon codes

You will be amazed at how many coupon codes are available for pretty much every website out there. Before you finalize your transactions, check to make sure that you do not forget to apply discount codes. A simple search for “discount codes” and the name of the site should yield a couple of different options for you to try.

Try to apply several codes to your transaction, because you may be able to combine a couple of different offers. If you’re having trouble finding a coupon code that works, always check out the homepage for the site. Deals are often highlighted there to entice shoppers to venture further into the site.

Search for trendy, off-brand clothing

We all have our favorite brands, but branching out and trying alternatives can give you the look without the high price. Be honest; no one really looks at the tags on your clothing. I’ve been pretty impressed with the affordable clothing offered on Amazon. They have trendy-looking items for really low prices.

Plenty of other sites offer cheaper versions of your favorite styles. They might not be heirloom quality, but if you’re someone who is continually updating their closet, it may be a good option.

Take advantage of rewards programs and sales

If you are hopelessly devoted to any specific stores or brands, make sure to earn some rewards for your loyalty. Sign up for email newsletters, and you can receive coupons and learn about upcoming sales. Don’t forget about planning ahead to make purchases during yearly sales or special holiday promotions. Some brands and sites that reward repeat customers with discounts you can apply towards future purchases.

Some sites and brands that only offer special pricing on special occasions. You can still save some of the cost by using a credit card with a cash-back or another type of reward program. Any easy way to find these reward programs is by going to Google and typing the name of your favorite online store followed by rewards or loyalty program. Just make sure to pay off your balances in full, or else the interest charges will cancel out your rewards.

Look for free shipping — and shop strategically

Finally, shipping charges are a sneaky way to end up paying even more for your online purchases. Most sites offer free shipping once your purchase adds up to a certain amount. Make sure you’re not paying $15 for shipping, when you could add on a small item and get everything sent to you without any extra charges.

Staying up to date with current trends is going to be expensive if you are an impulse shopper. By being more strategic with your spending, it is possible to save quite a bit of money. The keys are planning ahead and thinking a little outside the box. A little extra effort can help you be both fashionable and frugal.

How to Use a Subscription Box Swap

Do you subscribe to a subscription box? From skincare to snacks, makeup to meals, candles to cocktails to even… ahem, bedroom toys, monthly subscription boxes have continued to explode in popularity. According to one study there are nearly 10,000 different subscription boxes available. Crazy! And really, what’s not to love? It saves you shopping time by arriving right on your doorstep, helps you keep it fresh by trying new things, and lifts your spirit by balancing out the bills in the mail with some fun new products to try.

But what happens when a bunch of the items in your subscription box are a bust? While some jewelry and clothing subscription boxes allow you to return undesired items, many other subscription services can leave you stuck with products that don’t work for you.

Not surprisingly, there’s an app for that. SWAP by reKindness is an app that lets subscription box shoppers swap their “meh” pile for a “marvelous” pile. All you have to do is snap a pic, upload “swap” items available, request a swap and seal the deal from your phone.

How to use a subscription box swap app

How a subscription box swap works
  1. Upload an image of an unused item(s) from Glossybox, Stitch Fix, Owlcrate, etc. (or a high-quality fashion item) and a brief description to add an item.
  2. Browse your news feed or search for items you want in exchange. You can search by location to avoid shipping costs or search by similar priced items.
  3. Make swap offers by tapping on items you like and offering items of your own in return.
  4. Members have 48 hours to accept or counter the swap offers they receive.
  5. To finalize your swaps, either schedule a time and place to meet or share shipment tracking information in the app.

swap app2

One thing that sets the SWAP app apart? It’s fast. Offers only last 48 hours so you’ll know within days, instead of weeks (I’m looking at you Craigslist), if your item has an offer or counteroffer.

Did you know that 85-percent of clothes and textiles end up in landfills, even though 95-percent can be reused or recycled? And that over 25-percent of what subscription box customers receive is unloved? That makes the SWAP app good for the earth, good for your closet and good for your wallet. A triple win!

Visit the SWAP website to learn more or download the app on iTunes.

Traveling on Mixology

Travel in style

This year, we were so exited to be invited to New York Fashion Week. New York Fashion Week is where designers showcase their new lines and showcase fashionable trends. What you wear as a guest must be on-trend because you never know where you will be sitting or who will be admiring your look! Thankfully, we had Mixology to help us mix up our looks for New York Fashion Week.

With three days in New York on-the-go with scorching temperatures and freezing air conditioning, we needed it all! Flying in style is a must as once you land, it’s go, go, go! Since Lisa is always cold, she threw on the Sunday Stevens Love of the Game Bomber Jacket and Jenna wore the Decker Mila Top, which allowed us to remain comfortable and fashionable during our travels.

Mixology Decker Top

Dance the night away

Nightlife in New York is where it’s at! At the Laura Michelle NYFW Kick-Off Concert at the Norwood, we styled ourselves in Mixology’s trendy Decker Melanie Top for a night on the town. We were swaying to the hit single “Chuck Norris” in our flowy tops. The Barcelona Crossbody added a pop of color and was essential to a travelling around with a phone, room key and credit card.

Gab & Kate Moonlight Top

Business as usual

While we loved every minute of our trip, we had to make time for business, too! We couldn’t wait to share what we were doing with our readers, stopping along the way to send an update on the blog or on Instagram. The Gab and Kate Moonlight Top was perfect for a crisp, yet casual, look paired with a pair of comfortable jeans.

We wish we were there for longer so we could have worn more of Mixology’s trendy and fashionable clothes!

To get the look, shop Mixology and save 15% with the code SASSY15 at checkout. Be sure to tag us in your new look on Instagram!

6 White Sneakers We Love for Summer

To me, the most positive fashion development in 2016 has been the popularization and re-appropriation of the not only chic, but comfortable, running shoe. Nothing contrasts an all-black outfit or a little dress better than a white sneaker. And, when I run out of the house in a hurry to do my carpools, nothing is easier than slipping on a pair of sneakers. I can continue on with my day, whether it be running errands, going to work or grabbing lunch with friends. At night, the look can be elevated, yet casually chic, with a black dress. Now I don’t have to wear my “drop me off at the door” shoes and can walk to-and-from my evening outings. I am extremely grateful for this trend!

6 White summer sneakers we’re loving

1. Nike Tennis Classic Ultra Flyknit Sneaker ($150)

2. Vans Perf Leather Slip-On ($60)

3. Adidas Originals Stan Smith ($76)

4. Converse Chuck Taylor All Star Sneakers ($70)

5. Puma Women’s Basket Matte and Shine Lace Up Sneakers ($70)

Spring 2016 Handbag Trends
Spring handbag trends

We love spring for a variety of reasons, but mostly because everything seems to brighten up! This is the time of year to clean out those closets and add a few new pieces to your wardrobe.

One of the best ways to get in the spring spirit is with a new handbag! Two of the hottest spring handbag trends are bucket bags and small crossbody bags — and we’re big fans of both! Bucket bags can still hold a lot of your mom stuff, while crossbody bags are great for those nights out without the kids. In otherwords, you probably need both!

All about that fringe

Just as we saw in fall, fringe is hot and this trend has been carried over to spring handbags, too. We love the all over look fringe handbags that make a bold statement, but if that is a little too much fringe, you can also get your fringe fix with just a simple fringe tassel on your handbag.

The Spring 2016 color palette is always filled with so many pretty pastels, but this year, we’re loving the bright pops of coral and green that truly make our outfits stand out. There are certainly 50 shades of beige, ivory and cream, but blush pink is a new neutral that we’ve got our eye!

1. Kate Spade Milton Lane Satchel, $348
2. Milly Fringed Leather Bucket Bag, $275

Let’s face it… moms are busy.

Crazy busy.

I would love to wear heels and stilettos every day, but come on, they just aren’t practical for a busy mom who is on the go 24/7. I have to have a shoe that I can walk in from the time I leave for work in the morning until the time I finally let my head hit the pillow at night, which is why I’m such a fan of Tieks.

How to Wear Mustard Yellow Tieks

Are Tieks worth the price?

I’ve done many posts about Tieks on my blog, Shaw Avenue, but y’all, I’m here to tell you in person… they’re amazing!

I really never thought my foot was wide until ballet flats came into style. I would try pair after pair, but they always rub the bone below my pinky toe and I would be miserable all day. I had read review after review on how amazing Tieks were (just like this one!) and once I tried them on, I realized they were different.

Do I love them? Yes.
Are they worth the price? Yes. (Especially if other ballet flats don’t fit your feet well!)
I wouldn’t have 5 pair if I didn’t think so!

How to Wear Yellow Tieks in Fall

How to wear yellow Tieks in fall

When I was deciding on a new color to buy, it took me a while to narrow it down to the Mustard Yellow Tieks. It came down to those and the fuchsia pink, but there was just something about that yellow and blue together that I couldn’t pass up for fall! Did I have a lot of things in my closet to match these? No, not really. But, I knew I’d figure it out. I’m always up for a good styling challenge and I love coming up with new outfits to pair with them! Don’t be afraid to put a little pop of color on your feet, even in a color that seems to be out of the normal for the season!

Many things change when you’re a mom. You carry a diaper bag instead of a handbag, you always stash extra diapers in the car and you dress more for comfort than style. Finding cute clothes that were nursing-friendly was always a challenge with my firstborn. I always ended up succumbing to the two layer option — you know, that hot, bulky nursing cami with a t-shirt on top?

Breastfeeding Fashion: What do you love to wear to nurse?

Breastfeeding fashion you’ll love

Luckily, after my second daughter was born earlier this year, I was introduced to an awesome brand of practical, yet ultra-fashionable clothing perfect for breastfeeding mamas. The innovative nursing designs from Boob make caring for my baby on-the-go incredibly easy. Not only are they a lot more comfortable than the double-layer nursing tanks I was used to from my first pregnancy, they don’t even look like nursing clothes!

Nursing Dresses You'll Love This Summer

The perfect breastfeeding dress

Dresses are a summer favorite of mine, but they’re not traditionally the easiest to nurse in. Pulling your dress up around your neck while you nurse your baby can be more than tricky when you’re in public and tugging down the neckline will easily ruin your beloved dresses. I’ve loved wearing Boob’s Simone Striped Nursing Dress (currently on sale for $55). I can comfortably nurse anytime, anywhere while still looking stylish.

Breastfeeding Fashion from Boob

While many things change when you’re a mama, you shouldn’t have to sacrifice style. Now I just need to find a cute pair of shoes that allow me to keep up with my toddler!

What are your favorite breastfeeding-friendly pieces?
