On the set of MOM with Anna Faris and Allison Janney

MOMCBSInterviews
Last week I found myself roaming around Warner Bros. backlot aimlessly. I was meeting a bunch of other lifestyle bloggers on set of the new Anna Faris CBS Comedy sitcom, MOM, but in unlikely fashion, I arrived super early. After exploring cobble stone New York City / Greenwich Village type streets where Monica, Chandler, Rachel, Phoebe, Joey and Ross regularly congregated at Central Perk, I studied the brass plaques that decorate each soundstage with the film and television production that was filmed on that spot. As I circled back, I found myself at Stage 20, ready for MOM.

What’s the best advice your mom has given you?

There is something about the unsolicited advice we receive from our moms, it may go in one ear and out the other, but at some point we always end up quoting her. And then there is that dreaded moment in life when our children catch us doing something less than wonderful and bestow words of wisdom upon us. Talk about wake up call. For me, it was when a four-letter word slipped from my lips while cooking. I was immediately reprimanded with a passive aggressive tone by my six year old master chef, “Mom, please make sure you don’t say that in public.” Wow, she was right. At that moment not only did I see the light, but I felt all of two feet tall.

Have you done something as a mother that you’ve said you’d never do?

This memory could not have resonated more than while visiting the set of the new CBS Comedy from Executive Producer, Chuck Lorre, MOM. It was almost like a twitch. Watching mom, Bonnie (Allison Janney), daughter, Christy (Anna Faris), and level-headed granddaughter, Violet (Sadie Calvano), depend on each other to navigate this mixed up world after their newly found sobriety, really made me fall in love with the characters while mirroring my own quirky flaws as a parent. We quietly watched the magic happen as the cast and crew pre-shot some (very funny) scenes that would be included in episode 7 to be later filmed in front of a live studio audience. Seeing the characters unfold and develop by ping-ponging advice and support was everything other mom/daughter story lines on TV have been lacking for some time. Their clever dialogue and banter was funny, honest, and raw without being obnoxious or crass.

Do you bring a little of your mom to everyday life?

After the scenes were filmed, bells rang and the air immediately filled with ’70s rock tunes. As creatives scurried to meet marks and set up for the next scene, it was apparent that it takes an army to make a thirty-minute sitcom happen. And now it was our chance in between takes to sit down for some Q&A with Anna, Allison, Sadie and co-creator, Gemma Baker inside the set of the posh Napa eatery where Christy works. While questions were being shot off, I kept noticing the genuine chemistry and mutual respect amongst the three generations. It was clear with no doubt in my mind this was something learned from their mothers. It was also obvious that these three women have become an instant family and formed a special mom/daughter bond that was going to translate beautifully across screen.

Fresh and interesting, the world is about to be introduced to a new dynamic duo, so buckle up because Bonnie and Christy will be your hosts and folks – it’s going to be an exciting ride!

MOM premieres Monday, September 23 (9:30-10:00 pm ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network. @MOMCBS #CBSMOM
