The Voice - Season 7 Photo by Trae Patton/NBC

Last week I got to represent Savvy Sassy Moms at a live recording of the hit show The Voice at Universal Studios in Los Angeles. My mother was visiting from Connecticut for the holidays and it was a perfect outing for us – music, stars, behind-the-scenes glimpses at the action, and we were even caught on camera at the beginning of the show, clapping and laughing and having the time of our lives. Not only did we have a wonderful time at The Voice, but we also got to drive there in style, thanks to Nissan’s little gift of a 2015 Versa Note for me to drive for the week.

As a sponsor of The Voice, Nissan wanted us to arrive in style. I told them I’d like to try the Versa Note because it’s the tiniest car they make, and I wondered what it would be like to zip around Los Angeles, a car-centric city, in such a small vehicle. The car they sent is a 2015 Versa Note SR in Metallic Peacock.

Look how cute:

2015 versa noteInside its kicky exterior, it’s a pretty basic car. The engine is loud and takes a few seconds to pick up speed. But it gets great gas mileage with a combined city/highway 35 miles per gallon. I’ve been driving it for 6 days all around my normal places and I’ve only used half a tank of gas. Despite the Versa Note’s small size, which allows me to squeeze into small parking spaces without fear of bumping other cars, it has a comfortable roomy interior. It seats five people without crowding, which I discovered when I drove my parents and my 2 kids out to dinner one night. On the other hand, the cargo space with all those people is limited. One load of groceries for my food-vacuum family required me to push the back seats down. It’s a perfect car for getting from point A to point B, and this actual car with all of its extras costs just over $19,000.

The Versa Note got us from point A to point The Voice just fine thank you very much. I appreciated the modern sound system, which is a departure for me because I drive a 10-year-old sedan with a CD player that was broken long ago by my children and doesn’t have an iPhone hookup or Bluetooth connection. So in the Versa Note my mom and I got to play some tunes on the way to the show.

You can get free tickets to the Voice live shows just by going through NBC’s website. We were lucky to have VIP passes, so we were whisked directly to our seats – which were amazing – by friendly staffers. The whole process was fascinating. On the day we were present, Gwen Stefani and Pharrell taped a special performance of “Spark the Fire” complete with sparklers and torches and dancers and glow sticks for everyone in the audience to wave. They did three full performances of the song, then the producers edited a package together and played it during a later segment of the live show.

Let me tell you something. I am pretty sure that rocking out with my mom to a live Gwen Stefani performance wasn’t ever on my list of things to do, but I am definitely glad that it happened! We loved Stefani’s unique fashion choices – who else can pull off rock’n’roll pajamas and make that look cool?

As if that wasn’t awesome enough, then there was the whole episode of The Voice to experience. As audience members we had a very important job: applause. This was serious business. We had to stand up and applaud and cheer before every segment began, and stand during every performance. We were grateful for our awesome seats which were to Adam Levine’s left and level with the stage. The poor folks who stand down below stage level had to stand there for three hours! At least we got to sit down during commercial breaks and while the judges were talking with the contestants.

I was glad I picked something cute to wear, because as it turned out, our seats were right where the top 8 were headed at the end of their opening song, “Geronimo.” I couldn’t believe it when Craig and Damien danced and sang their way right up to where I was standing. That was when I wished I had taken the time to do my hair. We show up around 3:50 in the episode on the NBC website here.

on the voice

thevoice2The show was so much fun in person. The sound was excellent, all the performers sang their hearts out, and it was fun to watch the judges joke and goof around during breaks. Nick Jonas performed during this show and the audience went nuts. I hadn’t watched the Voice before but being there for this episode definitely made me invested in the outcome!

After the show, a staffer drove us back to the parking garage in a 2015 Nissan Murano. That’s more the style of car for my family, but I liked both driving experiences. We stayed at Universal for dinner at City Walk and then finally went home to show the DVR’ed episode to my family. What a day! My mom has a great story about her trip to Los Angeles and I got my face on network television for a nanosecond. Not too shabby. (Also, now I really want a new car.)

Nissan gave me a car to drive for the week and 2 VIP passes to a taping of the Voice. All opinions are my own. Or my mom’s.

6 Reasons to visit the Disneyland Resort During the Holidays #DisneyHolidays

It seems as though the Disneyland Resort and the holidays were a match made in mouse-shaped heaven, Disneyland is quite frankly the perfect locale for all things happy and festive. We were recently invited to enjoy the merry festivities, all opinions are own. After a day full of holiday Mickey heaven we have created a list of reasons why you should run and not just walk to the Disneyland Resort during the holidays.

The Castle during the holidays at Disneyland #DisneyHolidays
Just Got Merrier Decorations

I personally love over-the-top decorations around the holidays; the more the merrier I always say, but somehow the Disneyland Resort takes it just a step further and has the ability to fully immerse guests into a magical world of snow capped castles, wreath strewn lamp posts, gigantor Christmas trees and jingle belled adored horse drawn carriages down Main Street U.S.A. that makes Christmas even more merry. Both the Disneyland Resort and California Adventure are a gorgeous sight to behold during the holidays that are decked out to the fullest with decorations and festive décor everywhere.

Jingle Cruise Ride at Disneyland #DisneyHolidays

Holiday Rides

During the holidays at the Disneyland Resort a few of our favorite rides receive a festive holiday transformation. The Jungle Cruise becomes the “Jingle Cruise” with super fun surprises along the boat ride and can we talk about how funny that ride has become? I mean, I can never stop laughing at the boat drivers corny jokes. It’s a Small World Holiday is a popular attraction over the holidays and a must see. The Haunted Mansion Holiday is a complete Christmas transformation with a Nightmare Before Christmas theme (my 7 year old and 4 year old loved it!).

A Christmas Fantasy Parade at Disneyland #DisneyHolidays
A Christmas Fantasy Parade

Twice a day and starting at It’s A Small World and ending in Town Square, the “A Christmas Fantasy Parade” marches through the resort and features everyone’s favorite characters while they don their most festive apparel. Disney Princesses (even Anna and Elsa!) join the parade along with prancing reindeer, marching toy soldiers and dancing gingerbread cookies. To round out the entertaining parade Santa Claus makes an appearance with his rosy cheeks and jolly laugh.

Santa Claus at Jingle Jangle Jamboree
Jingle Jangle Jamboree

Located in Frontierland in Big Thunder Ranch is the ultimate Christmas activity showdown known as “Jingle, Jangle, Jamboree”. There are games and activities, such as coloring (every kid that colors a Sheriff’s star can participate in the stage show), cookie decorating, reindeer games, yummy food and even a petting zoo. Guests can even visit Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus too.

Holiday Food at Disneyland #DisneyHolidays

Holiday Eats and Sweets

No piece written about the Disneyland Resort can complete without a mention of the food and sweet treats to be had at the park during the holidays. All along Main Street U.S.A. and Buena Vista Street in DCA you can find handmade sweets such as fudge, toffee, candy canes, caramel apples, candies, cookies and so much more. New to the Disneyland Resort are the Souvenier Soup Cups available at the Jolly Holiday Bakery Cafe, where guests can grab a insulated soup cup to go and enjoy it while watching the parade. The soup stays warm inside, but the cup is cool enough to carry!

World of Color - Winter Dreams #DisneyHolidays
World of Color – Winter Dreams

The World of Color show every night at Disney’s California Adventure is always a sight to behold; however the World of Color – Winter Dreams is a magical visual feast that you absolutely cannot miss. Hosted by the huggable Olaf, the show consists of holiday magic and sparkly colors with upbeat music that everyone will enjoy.

Halloween at Disneyland

Halloween, like only Disneyland can do it

A visit to Disneyland Resort is pretty special any time of the year; however Halloween at Disneyland Resort is an especially spectacular time to visit. Every Fall, (September 12 to October 31, 2014) the Disneyland Resort is transformed for the Halloween season with magnificent decorations, special “spooky” attractions and Halloween sweets galore at every sweets shoppe. We were invited to Disneyland as members of the media, all opinions are our own. Halloween is magically celebrated at Disneyland Resort like only Disney can do it.

Disneyland HalloweenTime Candy Corn Cotton Candy

Candy Corn Cotton Candy

It’s all about the Sweets

The Disneyland Resort is becoming quickly infamous for their culinary delights, from the Mickey-shaped pretzels to the gumbo bread bowl at the Royal Street Veranda (and so much in between), the Halloween Time sweets at Disneyland are no exception. Found in any sweets shoppe in California Adventure or the Disneyland Resort, the Halloween Time sweets are stunning works of art. I stopped in to several shoppe’s to get a glance at them and without fail, I drooled every time. I got to personally taste the candy corn cotton candy, Mickey Pumpkin Cupcake, apple twist, pizza twist, Mint Julep and Gibson Girl ice cream in a Halloween waffle cone. I have heard very good and yummy things about the pumpkin Mickey beignets from Café Orleans and the piping hot banana fritters from Royal Street Veranda.

Disneyland Halloween Time Sweets and Treats Special Halloween Time Attractions

Without question, the quintessential icon of the Halloween season is the Haunted Mansion Holiday. The 2014 Halloween Time Haunted Mansion Holiday is decorated inspired by Jack Skellington, from Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas and the spooky residents of Halloween Town. I snapped the picture below of the Haunted Mansion Holiday during sunset, giving the Mansion an extra spooky glow. We didn’t get to ride the Haunted Mansion Holiday this year (my kids are too little and are easy frightened!) but I have heard the entire ride is decorated for Halloween. Space Mountain becomes Space Mountain Ghost Galaxy during Halloween Time at Disneyland. Although the queue time is a bit longer to ride during Halloween Time it is worth it. Pick up a fast pass so you won’t have to queue too long! Haunted Mansion at Disneyland during Halloween

More Halloween Time Special Attractions

Big Thunder Ranch, which is known as the Halloween Carnival during Halloween Time at Disneyland Resort offers several special events during the Halloween season. Meet your favorite Disney characters in special Halloween garb, see the amazing hand carved pumpkins that are true works of art, the kiddies can do some Halloween crafts and catch a glimpse of popular Disney villains. Observe Dia de los Muertos with a traditional skeleton display in Frontierland too! Magical Holidays at a Magical Place

A visit to Disneyland is always special however, the ability to celebrate a holiday at the happiest place on earth is made even more magical due to the unique attention to detail Disneyland can do. My older children and I had the best day ever at Disneyland, my kids loved the special decorations, the special treats and most especially the Halloween Time sweets. It was a magical, happy day. I mean, just look at these faces:

Happy Kids at Disneyland

Halloween Time at the Disneyland Resort is every day now until October 31st, 2014. Head on over to Disneyland to purchase Halloween Time tickets now.

Drew Barrymore Adam Sandler Blended

Photo by David Bloomer | © 2013 Warner Bros. Entertainment Inc.

There are blogger events and there are Hollywood events. When the two collide the experience is nothing short of amazing. This is exactly what happened Monday when a few parent bloggers were invited by Warner Bros. Pictures to spend the day with Drew Barrymore, Adam Sandler and Wendy McLendon-Covey in anticipation of their new movie, Blended, being released May 23.

I could watch the three of them read a washing machine manual and have a blast, so to be able to screen Blended and then chat it up with them was enough to make my sides hurt from smiling and laughing so much for the next few days. Seriously, The Wedding Singer and 50 First Dates were both really funny flicks, but now that I have a few years of being “mom” under my belt, this movie really resonated with me. And let’s face it, seeing these two reunite on the big screen again will just never get old.

Inside the Hollywood Hills Suite

After the screening at TCL Chinese 6 Theaters on Hollywood Boulevard, we made it over to the Loews Hollywood Hotel where we were spoiled with lunch and pampered courtesy of Drew and her cosmetic company Flower Beauty, and No. 4 hair products. The shades were amazing and I fell in love instantly. The line is available exclusively for Wal-Mart and I was very impressed with all the products. Bloggers also had the opportunity to get their hair braided courtesy of No. 4 hair care products.

Drew Barrymore and Adam Sandler at the blogger #Blended Event

Interacting with Drew, Adam and Wendy was like being plunked right on to the set of one of their movies complete with hair and make-up. The chemistry and vibe was playful and exactly the way you would think it would be. And their genuine fondness and admiration for each other made the afternoon even that much better.

The day is certainly one I won’t soon forget. Having the opportunity to meet and interact with my favorite Rom-Com couple and having the chance to personally tell them that is truly a big fat check off my bucket list. THEN… to have Adam Sandler himself tell me to get between him and Drew for the group photo? PRICELESS.

Imagine your child’s face upon walking into Restaurant Stadium. You are at the All-Star Chef Classic and it’s brightly lit. Just as it sounds, it closely resembles something grand out of the television cooking competition, Iron Chef. It’s big, it’s impressive and kids are about to dominate. Our mini-chefs in training are handed aprons, a chef’s hat, and given a spot on stage to learn to bake — wait for it: fōnuts!

Not only will you be immediately considered “Rock Star of the Year” in their eyes for bringing you to this event, but you are about to hand over your wee baker to chef Waylynn Lucas (founder of fōnuts) who is just as rad with super cool tattoos, wears Chuck Taylors and is about to rock your lil’ chef’s world.

Question: What is a fōnut?

Answer: Healthy, modern twist on the classic donut.

It was nice to look around and see other familiar faces taking fōnuts baking lessons with their kids. Los Angeles Galaxy captain, Robbie Keane and son were on our baking team, as was Misha Collins from “Supernatural” with his children, and the wonderful, Ludo Lefebvre (Trois Mec) with his beautiful family.

It was a dream come true for some parents in the room when world-famous French pastry chef, Florian Bellanger came by to lend the kids a hand. And Sur la Table was kind enough to hook our little champs up by providing them with all the baking gear they could possibly need to make all the fōnuts goodness themselves at home (SCORE!)

In between breaks, there were vegetable garden stations, smoothie stations, face painting and balloon artistry unlike anything you’ve ever seen before. Oh, and even a whipped cream eating contest which my foodie proudly came in 2nd.

Savor the Season produced by Melissa’s Produce

Outside the doors of the stadium was just as exciting with a pop-up Farmer’s Market Celebration from our favorite chefs waiting to bring smiles to the faces of 600 guests. The food was fantastic. I was most excited to try Wylie Dufresne‘s Edamame Gazpacho and it was delicious. I wish I could’ve eaten a bowl, or six…

Tot really loved David Myers dish, Tuna with Sesame Tofu which was cooked perfectly, and my husband went back for seconds, and thirds… of Ben Ford‘s Sea Bass Crudo.

Master Chef, Graham Elliot

A true highlight of the afternoon was introducing my daughter to chef Graham Elliot. She is a loyal fan of Gordon Ramsay’s Master Chef and Master Chef Junior so this was a BIG deal because Graham is a favorite of hers on the show. He told us that they just signed on for season 3 and 4 of Master Chef Junior, and that they were about to begin filming — so hopefully, it will be back on air before we know it! I may have given him the mom-stink eye when he encouraged my daughter to try out. My kid has zero knife skills and I think we opt to keep her fingers for a little while longer. Just sayin’.

It’s hard to believe this was the debut of the All-Star Chef Classic because it was such a fun and well-executed event. I highly recommend following on Facebook so you can catch the next one. It was so much fun for the whole family and we’re really looking forward to attending again next year!

Together again, AGAIN!

Thanks to Suave Kids, Savvy Sassy Moms was on the red carpet for the Disney’s Muppets Most Wanted World Premiere at the El Capitan Theater, elbow-to-elbow with the stars and hob-knobbing with some of Hollywood’s most elite and up-and-coming actors and actresses. Hollywood Boulevard was shut down for the red carpet arrivals and interviews, as crowds of fans buzzed watching Sweetums clear the way for Kermit, Miss Piggy, Gonzo, Fozzie, Scooter and the rest of the gang’s big entrance.

Muppets Most Wanted World Premiere

So who did we spy with our cray-cray Muppet eye making their way into the theater? None other than: Ray Liotta, Danny Trejo, Bret McKenzie, Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Justin Mikita, Julie Bowen, Matt Barnes, Constance Zimmer, Jared Fogel, Candace Cameron Bure, Catherine Bell, Ali Fedotowsky, Peyton List, David Koechner, Beth Littleford, Charlotte Ross, Tia Mowry and Cory Hardrict, Karan Brar, Nestor Carbonell, Tucker Albrizzi, Cameron Boyce, Skai Jackson, Samantha Harris, Hayden Byerly, Francesca Capaldi, Jake Short and Dylan Posti.

But, wait…there’s more!

The inside of the El Capitan Theater was a celebrity vortex — famous faces were everywhere you looked. Terry Crews and his beautiful family were seated directly in front of us, Tito Ortiz and his sons to the left, Nick Wheeler directly behind and Allison Sweeney, Angie Everhart and Melora Hardin just a few seats down. And we cannot forget everyone’s favorite hecklers, Waldorf and Statler perched above in their reserved box seats ready to view the performance.

The after-party

Once the show ended, guests crossed the street to The Aztec where Tina Fey (who is lovely), Ricky Gervais (had such a fantastic suit on,) Ty Burrell (I wanted to grab his red wine glass and start chugging it because it smelled so good,) and Josh Groban (a-dor-able,) mingled freely with guests while children played at craft stations. We enjoyed dinner from the Muppets “World Tour” and received manicures courtesy of O P I.

Then THIS happened…

The unthinkable. My two favorite TV characters from my two favorite TV shows collided inches from me. Not feet, inches. It was B-613’s Charlie (George Newbern) from ABC’s hit series, Scandal, and Mad Men‘s Harry Crane (Rich Sommer.) I gasped. Loudly. They chuckled. My lip quivered. Charlie/George grabbed my hands. I clenched them back, got caught up in the moment and yelled, “I’M ROOTING FOR YOU — STAY ALIVE!” Scandal fans, Charlie promised he will do his best.

Apparently, I have a soft spot for special agent government assassins.

A very special, “Thank you!” to Suave Kids and Savvy Sassy Moms for making this incredible night possible.

Wocka! Wocka! Wocka!

I really am not sure how those marketing spies have done it.

See, I have been planning out our summer for the past month or so; filling our weeks with camps, camping trips, quick trips to visit relatives and juggling work commitments. (It has been a full time job putting this jig-saw puzzle of the Tucker Family life together, I tell you!) But, the ONE thing, the one MOST important summer activity, I have sadly not been able to schedule yet is the Tucker Family Vacation (which, mind you, is MUCH different than a camping trip or visiting relatives!)

I recently discovered HomeAway, a website that directly connects travelers to a world-wide database of homeowners who are renting their properties. I love being able to go straight to the source because it makes for a more authentic travel experience. You can rent properties in Costa Rica, Italy, Gulf Shores… you name it. If you can dream it, there is most likely a HomeAway homeowner ready to rent to you.

HomeAway Costa Rica

Costa Rica, Italy, Gulf Shores (Photos by HomeAway homeowners)

Since, I’m mostly on-the-go, I have been using their iPhone app to drool over – hmm, I mean, research – warm, beachy getaways that will allow the kiddos to splash in the ocean while Hubby and I sink into the sand with our long-overdue novels. Researching with the HomeAway app is a breeze and has allowed me to hone in on just the right location, set-up and price. So, imagine my surprise when they announced the HomeAway Challenge designed to give my family (and yours, too!) the opportunity to reclaim the family vacation. Once I decide on the perfect sandy destination, I may get to go for free? Score! (I swear, these guys are spying on me!)

HomeAway Reclaim Your Family Vacation Sweepstakes

About the challenge, HomeAway is setting out to find five families who best demonstrate – visually and in words – a need to “reclaim” their family vacation.

The two most-deserving families, as voted on by the public, receive a $2,500 and $1,000, respectively, stay at the HomeAway vacation rental of their choice. The three remaining families receive alternative prizes that can help ease the stress of family travel: the third place-winning family receives a $500 gift card; and the fourth and fifth place-winning families each receive an iPad mini to help keep the kids entertained while traveling this summer.

Consumers can enter HomeAway’s ‘Reclaiming Your Family Vacation Sweepstakes’ by visiting the sweepstakes page on Facebook® and uploading a photo along with a caption of up to 500 characters that explains why they need to reclaim their family vacation. The sweepstakes is open from April 29 to May 17, 2013, with the public invited to vote for the best photos and stories from May 18 to May 31, 2013. Winners will be announced in early June.

Submit. Share. Vote. Win. OK! I’m TOTALLY in!

Last night we attended the opening night of Disney On Ice, Dare to Dream at the Staples center, but before we even saw the show we were able to skate with the Princesses!  We were invited as friends of Baby Buggy, a charity organization that collects gently used baby products such as strollers, highchairs, toys, clothing and even diapers for families in need.  I am a “friend” of Baby Buggy and have been supporting their mission for over the last year.  Baby Buggy was the non-profit being highlighted for opening night here in Los Angeles and everyone was asked to bring diapers as a donation for families in need.

For the Holiday season downtown Los Angeles has an ice skating rink at LA Live in the Nokia Plaza. The gigantic Christmas tree lights up the ice and all the video screens in the plaza makes the rink a colorful light show on ice.  We skated right along side all the Princes and Princesses.  Cinderella, Tatinana, Rapunzel, Belle, Snow White and Jasmine were all there with their handsome beaus.  After the ice skating we headed into the VIP reception for photos with Mickey Mouse and dinner before the show.

Screen Shot 2012-12-13 at 7.26.39 AM

One of the highlights of the night had to be when McKenna spotted Bella from “Shake it Up!” she was so excited but totally kept her cool.  I polietly asked for a picture, she was very sweet anad happily took a photo with McKenna.

Screen Shot 2012-12-13 at 7.28.23 AM

Even though my daughter is out of the while Princess phase and my son seemed to be more impressed with the light up toy he got, I was very excited to see Disney On Ice.  I remember my Mom taking me to so many Disney On ice shows  (if not all of them) when I was a little girl.  It was always a special tradition that we did together, just the two of us.

Spoiler Alert:
They tell three Disney stories, The Princess and the Frog, Cinderella and Tangled (which is my favorite).  But they of course have all the classic Disney characters, Mickey, Minnie, Goofy and Donald Duck  be apart of the show too.  The opening and grand finale are really both really exciting too.  I was worried the show wasn’t going to have enough “boy” stuff but there were plenty of “boy” characters, fireworks and stunts to keep my little guy entertained.

The show was spectacular, I mean who would expect anything less?
