Aahhhh the maxi dress. The way moms can still kinda-sorta wear yoga pants but all the while look like they’re dressed up. They are, after all, crotchless yoga pants you know. Some very brilliant woman was like, “I want to be comfortable like I’m wearing yoga pants but not actually be wearing yoga pants.” And the maxi skirt was born.

They really are perfect and can be worn a ton of ways. Today I am going to show you how to wear a maxi skirt three different ways.

how to wear a maxi skirt

Casual everyday Look

maxi dress casual

Let’s start with the obvious maxi look — the everyday black maxi that goes with just about anything, old Beatles tank top and some casual kicks that you can’t see. A pair of Converse here would work just fine. You’re comfy, cute and still wearing a skirt. You could even throw on a ball cap and head to your kid’s game, it’s that versatile!

Dressed Up

maxi dress drssed up

I just realized you can see my son in the reflection taking this picture. So funny! I wonder what he’s gonna think in a couple years about taking pictures of his mom’s outfits…. Anyway! This is a little more dressed up. The material of the skirt is still very comfortable but I paired it with a nicer top that scoops low in the back and a pair of strappy sandals. I love the thin yellow belt to tie it all together. And just like that you’re ready for a summer wedding.

As a Dress

maxi skirt as a dress

This has to be one of my favorites. I actually wore this to church today. This maxi skirt is a little on the shorter side for me (I’m 6 ft tall), so instead of giving it the boot, I just pulled it all the way up, slapped a belt on and BAM I have a super cute dress! It is even somewhat of a high-low dress because of the way you pull it up. This can easily be paired with a cute jean jacket or light sweater. I like my booties with it because they match the belt, but you could also pair it with sandals as well.

So there you have it! Three ways to wear a maxi skirt. Like I mentioned, there are a ton of other options for sure, this is just to get you started.

What are your favorite ways to wear a maxi skirt?

Did you know that it’s wedding season coming up? I know, it’s crazy that we’re nearly half way through April!! Now is about the time we start hitting all the bridal showers, bachelorette parties, and such. And really, they are so much fun. There’s nothing like celebrating with people during the happiest moments of their lives. So today I thought I’d share some outfits that will be perfect for the next wedding you’re attending. Whether it’s casual or fancy, I’ve gotcha covered.

Colorful
spring colors

My husband’s family is Bahamian. Bahamians like bright colors. You should have seen them all at our wedding, it was fantastic. Blues, pinks, turquoise, fuchsia, orange, it was amazing. Wearing bright colors can always been fun specially to an evening summer wedding.

 Garden Party Style
vintage shoot

We all know (hopefully) that it’s inappropriate to wear white to a wedding. Let the bride have her moment! But pale blushes and pretty lace is definitely okay. Paired with some beautiful accessories you’ll be ready to go. I think these looks would be perfect for a garden party wedding or even a bridal/baby shower.

Jumpsuit
jumpsuit chic

Wait – don’t stop reading! I promise they can be beautiful. See here paired with a bunch of fun pinks and golds. It’s fabulous. It’s also perfect for those ladies who might not feel very comfortable in a dress or skirt but don’t want to be too casual. I would suggest pairing it with a belt for sure to make sure it doesn’t look like you’re wearing pajamas.

Formal
Holiday Dress

Formal is probably the most fun, for me anyway. I love a reason to get all dressed up with the hubs. It’s probably the least likely as well. But heck, it’s good to be prepared! And really, who needs a reason to wear sequins? Just say the word and I’m there! So although this one might be a little unrealistic, it’s still hecka cute and I’m gonna be begging for a formal wedding invite just to rock it! Personally, it seems like I’m in the more ‘baby shower’ stage of my life than weddings. That’s why it’s good a lot of these can work for both!

Weigh in! What do you like to wear to weddings?

6pm.com has clothing, shoes, handbags, jewelry and more to help you master one of the hottest looks of Spring 2014: Feminine Flair. Take a selfie sporting your own interpretation of the style for the chance to win $150 to shop 6pm.com!

Classic styles are hot

Maybe I have watched a little too much Mad Men, but I am so excited about the old-school femininity that is dominating spring and summer 2014 style. High heels with pointed toes, dangling earrings, structured handbags, lace details and dresses, dresses, dresses all embody femininity and classic prettiness. And they look great on everyone!

I was tasked with the ridiculously fun job of personally styling a few looks from 6pm.com that showcase spring’s feminine flair. If you have not yet shopped this incredible online outlet store that features the coolest brands and latest trends, you are in for a treat. At 6pm.com you will find your favorite designers, sexy shoes, hot handbags and more for up to 75 percent off.

Dresses are a favorite

I am a dress gal. One easy piece that highlights my curves and flatters my figure is my go-to outfit anchor for spring and summer. 6pm.com has oodles of classic, gorgeous dresses by one of my favorite frock designers: Calvin Klein. My first dress choice at 6pm.com is the Calvin Klein black and white dolman sleeve dress. It is so versatile — I can wear it for day or night, for work or going out. Although it is not covered in chintz, the tailoring of the dress is ladylike and is a perfect foil for the awesomely aggressively feminine black bow-bedecked platform sandals from Isola.

6pm-fashion

These shoes are adorable, no? I love the bows and the platform lengthens the legs. To complete the look I added gold chandelier earrings by Sparkling Sage. I love how these three simple pieces — plus softly girly hair and makeup — make for a pulled-together feminine flair look.

6pm-jewelry

Another easy feminine flair look I styled with 6pm.com embraces more color…the Pantone Color of the Year, Radiant Orchid, that is! Again I fell for a dress by Calvin, this silky shirt dress. A spring staple, a shirt dress always looks both professional and pretty. If you have spring or summer trips planned, this dress is a great pick — it traveled crazy well. I just flew cross-country for a weekend conference and though I crumpled it in my carry-on, it survived without a wrinkle or the need to steam in the hotel bathroom. I paired it with Franco Sarto wedge heeled sandals that are so comfy I walked around Disneyland in them. Seriously.

6pm-shirt-dress

Thanks for making it through my feminine flair selfies. I am sure you can take better ones and style even more fabulously feminine looks for spring. And that is exactly what the folks at 6pm.com would like you to do!

It is officially spring, and it’s time to talk about the fashion must haves of the season! Spring is all about renewal and starting fresh, and it’s always exciting to put away those coats and scarves and pull out the warmer weather skirts and cute floral dresses! I’ve put together a few spring fashion must haves that should be found in every wardrobe this season.

spring fashion must haves

1. Stripe fit and flare dress, Gap, $60
2. Floppy hat, Nordstrom, $56
3. Floral kimono, Urban Outfitters, $79
4. Essie “Mint Candy Apple,” Ulta, $9
5. Essie “French Affair,” Amazon, $5
6. Maxi dress, Nordstrom, $198
7. Dolce Vita ankle boots, Nordstrom, $151
8. Free People lace dress, Nordstrom, $128

Stripes are always in

Stripes are pretty much the perfect pattern for spring. They just exude boating and lazy days by the water. Stripes are always classic and always in, but especially when the weather warms up a bit, and they can be paired with bare legs and a cute floppy brimmed hat. Throw on a jean jacket and you’re ready for a day in the sun.

Florals and Kimonos are the perfect spring pairing

What better time to wear floral than when the flowers themselves are in full bloom?! I say, embrace your surroundings and go all out with whatever flower is your favorite. We’re seeing a lot of daisies and roses all over the place for spring this year, and loving it! Another favorite trend this year is the kimono- a pretty, feminine topping to any outfit. It’s the perfect cover-up for a beautiful spring day, and adds a layer without adding too much warmth. Time to put the wool sweaters away and stock up on some gorgeous kimonos! Knock out two must haves in one by rocking a floral kimono.

Lace with ankle boots combines feminine and edgy

Another gorgeous spring trend is lace. Whether you wear your lace in a dress or skirt or cute little shorts, it is a must-have this season! I’m partial to white lace, as it can easily be dressed up or down depending on the occasion. Plus, warmer weather calls for lighter colors! Pair your ultra femme lace with some edgy ankle boots to really knock it out of the park.

Pastels make for the perfect accessory

Springtime just screams pastel colors, doesn’t it? Maybe it’s the influx of Easter decorations, which all seem to have pastel everything, but I always get the urge to pack away my dark colors and reach for my baby blues and light pinks in the spring. I’m loving a pretty pastel nail for spring- the perfect accessory to any outfit!

Maxis combine comfort and cuteness

Okay, so it’s not quite summer, and we’re still getting a few April showers, so what better “in between” garment than a maxi? It’s cool enough to allow a breeze if the weather’s warmer, but it covers your legs so you have something to protect from the slight chill in the air that is still lingering from winter. It is the perfect wardrobe essential for moms chasing little ones, as there is no possibility of flashing! Bonus! And it feels like you’re wearing pajamas, but you look super cute! You simply can’t go wrong with the maxi- in either skirt or dress form.

Which spring fashion must haves are you going to try out this year? What’s the one spring trend you simply can’t live without?

Easter is right around the corner as I’m sure you’ve seen if you’re ever on Pinterest! (April 20th if you were wondering!) Personally, I truly love this holiday for what it represents, the beautiful spring weather that is making itself known, and time when the whole family comes together.

However, when holidays like this come around, I’m usually stuck getting things together last minute, I don’t have time to decide on something to wear. I usually throw something on I’ve worn a million times before and my hair goes into a ‘messy bun.’ Whoever brought messy back — THANK YOU.

This time I am not going to get caught off guard. I’ve prepared three outfits to share with you today and I’m gonna rock one of them. I’m also pretty certain that no matter how you celebrate this holiday, one of these will work for you.

Coral me Happy! (Casual Easter Outfit)

Casual Easter sunday outfit

If church isn’t your vibe and you’d rather have a lovely brunch with friends, this is your outfit. Boyfriend jeans are adorably cute and super comfortable. Throw some coral/pink/yellow/lavender and you’ve got yourself an Easter outfit! Love the tank top and the clutch!

 Pretty in Pink

pink Easter sunday outfit

Beautiful, right? Can I have an excuse to wear this every day please? It’s the perfect pretty in pink to wear to church, family gathering, dinner, you name it! You could also switch out the heels to flats to rock that Easter egg hunt. We all know tea length skirts are in - let’s rock ‘em!

Easter Sunday

The perfect easter sunday outfit

Somehow this represents the perfect Easter Sunday outfit to me. If you do happen to go to church on Easter Sunday, this is perfect. It’s bright and colorful to match the season. It’s pretty and put together and modest and feminine. Sounds like a winning combo to me! That dress is gorgeous.

So there you have it! These are my three choices for Easter Sunday.

So tell me, which category do you think you’d fall into?

best-spring-shoes

Let’s skip the waxing on the beauty of the daffodils blooming and robins singing and get straight to the best part of spring: the shoes. Even the most frugal and least fashion-obsessed among us knows the need for a new pair of Sunday sandals or Saturday night heels to wear in warmer weather, and us shoppers herald the first signs of spring like hunters on opening day.

The shoe departments currently sport springtastic shoes in thousands of lovely looks to ogle and chose from. We have combed through the shops, style blogs, fashion mags and spring edits to identify the best spring shoes of 2014.

Floral Heels

Keep your go-to dress from last season and simply switch out the shoes with a pair of these pretty pumps adorned with flowers. These prints are a perfect complement to a solid sheath, simple slacks and they even add a glam touch to cuffed boyfriend jeans.

1. ASOS Predict Heels at ASOS
2. J. Crew Collection Sloane Printed Heels at J. Crew
3. Ivanka Trump Gelana Floral Sandal at Nordstrom
4. Isabelle Printed Pumps at J. Crew Factory
Flat Ankle Strap Sandals

flat-ankle-strap-sandals-spring-shoes

Think of these flat ankle-strapped sandals as the new gladiator, and wear them just as you did those more intricate flat sandals of seasons past. Wear with shorts, skirts, jeans and maxi dresses. They add so much more elegance to casual looks than old chlorine-bleached flip flops!

1. Favorite Ankle-Strap Sandal at Forever 21
2. Milo Sandal at J. Crew Factory
3. Romana Italian Leather Sandals at Garnet Hill
4. Rachel Zoe Gracie Sandal on Piperlime
d’Orsay Flats

d-orsay-flats-spring-shoes-2014

This season’s flats are showing more skin. The d’Orsay flat is a retro look that separates the shoe into two parts, covering the toes and heel and showcasing the rest of the foot (perfect if you are between pedicures!) A chic alternate to the ballet slipper and a perfect pairing with every pant in your closet. Karlie Kloss even wore them recently with a formal dress.

1. Wanted Syrah d’Orsay Flat at Zappos
2. Steve Madden Elusion d’Orsay Flat at Piperlime
3. Breckelle’s Dolley d’Orsay Flat at Zooshoo

Wedge Cork Sandals
cork-wedge-sandals-spring-shoes

The easiest recipe for a slim line and shapely looking legs this spring. Combine leather straps in a shade that matches your skin tone with a cork wedge heel. Add to spring skirts and dresses and stir. Yield: one hot mama with sexy, slender legs!

1. Franco Sarto Cera Wedge at DSW
2. Kate Spade New York Tropez Wedge at Piperlime
3. Dune Grappy leather Wedge Heel Sandals at John Lewis
4. Charles David Oriel Sandal at Nordstorm
Birkenstocks

birkenstocks-spring-shoes

Our most controversial choice of this round-up, “Birks” have the Savvy Sassy Moms divided. We agree that these hippie-chick staples are everywhere lately, and showcased on the most fashion-forward feet this spring. Other writers state that though they are “in style,” it doesn’t necessarily make them stylish. Although they are clunky and can make calves look chunky, you will be hard-pressed to find a more comfortable shoe. If you decide to hop on the Birkenstock train, we suggest you choose one of the newer, more refined strap styles and modern colors as pictured above.

1. Birkenstock Adria at Zappos
2. Birkenstock Mayari at Gravity Pope
3. Birkenstock Granada in Pewter at DSW
4. Birkenstock Adana at Birkenstock Store
5. Birkenstock Gizeh Birko-Flor at Zappos

What say you Savvy Sassy readers? Birks or d’Orsay? Floral or flat? What will YOU be buying this spring?

Editors Review:

I have been wearing these sandals around Costa Rica and I am not sure if it’s the sandals, ocean breeze or my yoga class but these sandals do make me feel a little bit more grounded.  These are perfect sandal for traveling and give great support when walking, as oppose to those flip flops I throw on most days. I consider these my nicer sandals and wear them when I actually get out of my swimsuit and get dressed.  They are my “real shoes” while living the Pura Vida lifestyle!

I think we can all agree that being a mom is one of the hardest yet most rewarding things we have ever done or will do. It’s worth every ketchup stain on our white jeans, every dried snot glob in our favorite shirt and every grass stain in their newly purchased jeans.

However, even though it might be a little bit harder with the littles running around with almost no sense of what is dirty and disgusting, we can still be cute! I know, I know, it’s shocking!! For example, I bet you thought skirts waved goodbye when Jr. started crawling, right? Think again! And thank goodness that this season tea-length skirts are in!

Tea-length skirts are on trend

I am making an argument that tea-length skirts are a mom’s favorite skirt. Hear me out. They’re flowy so you’re comfortable (almost like yoga pants!), they’re long so you don’t have to worry about flashing the playground, and they look can be worn casually or dressed up. Sounds like the perfect skirt to me!

I’ve styled three ways to rock one to hopefully give you guys an idea. Let’s do this!

Tea-length skirt dressed up

tea length skirt dressed up

I thought I’d start with a dressy way to wear it. I am sure you’ve seen this picture floating around Pinterest because, well, it’s a totally cute outfit! Here’s where you can see the image to the left. But pairing your tea-length skirt with a silky blouse and blazer you look classy and sophisticated without being too dressed up. Pair it with some comfortable flats and you’re ready to conquer your day!

Casually styled tea-length skirt

tea length skirt for a casual day

This look is probably my favorite. It’s from Amanda from The Clothes Horse. I love how casually it’s put together where you could wear it everyday, but it’s still very cute and stylish. I chose the Paris shirt because I love Paris and you can just never go wrong there. I also chose a white purse as opposed to something purple like she’s rocking because although she’s absolutely adorable, I’m more a matchy-matchy kinda girl. All in all, I’m searching for pieces to add to my wardrobe to make this outfit.

Tea-length skirt with a chambray

tea length skirt with chambrayIs there anything wrong with this picture? I think not. Sunny polka dots perfect for spring. A cute fitted chambray shirt so it’s not too fancy. Stacked bracelets, a cute belt and nude heels. I adore it all. Folake from The Style Pantry rocks this look like no one’s business. I think it’s fun because you’re wearing a skirt so you’re all fancy, but you pair it with a chambray and BAM it’s classy/casual. You could even swap the heels for flats and wear it to the park. Love!

So is this spring trend one that you’ll be adapting this season? What’s you’re favorite look?

Newsflash: Diaper bags do not have to look like diaper bags! They can indeed be stylish and fit into the wardrobes of all of us fashion-forward mamas! I’ve put together a list of seven stylish diaper bags that don’t actually look like diaper bags. Because who wants that? Not me. Plus, the best part is that all of these bags just so happen to be under $100. They fit into our wardrobes and our budgets! So we can spend money on other things, like our post-baby closets. Heaven knows we’ll need an entirely new one, am I right?

diaper bags

1. Skip Hop “Chelsea” bag, $99
2. BagyBags tote bag, $84
3. Christy Studio “Anna” bag, $41
4. Wendy Bellissimo for JCPenney, $57
5. Skip Hop DUO French Stripe, $64
6. Skip Hop Chevron, $58
7. Oioi Messenger Bag, $100

How cute are these diaper bags? I know I wouldn’t mind wearing these, baby or not! They are all so fashionable and totally don’t look like they could contain every single thing you need for baby. But, guess what: They do. The greatest part of this, besides the super affordable price tags and great looks, is that these bags will serve you well beyond the baby years. Done with diapers? You can still tote these around, no problem. Grab one of these cute bags and you’re well on your way to being the most stylin’ little mama on the block.

Now the question remains: Which one are you going to choose?

bromstad for naturalizer spring collectionWhen David Bromstad teamed up with Naturalizer to create artwork for a spring line, he was delighted. “I loved the challenge of it,” he said to a roomful of media personnel last week at the chic Cecconi’s restaurant in West Hollywood. Naturalizer asked him to do with shoes and accessories what he does in his design work as well as on his show Color Splash on HGTV — create with color.

david bromstad for naturalizer media luncheonSharing his art for spring shoe collection

The artwork he designed — large floral patterns brought to life with colors like turquoise and coral — livens up the collection of flats, wedges, sandals, flip flops, and handbags for spring. Color is everything. It makes the world go around,” Bromstad says. “A pop of color can change your mood and the kind of day you are having. The colors used in this collection are bright, happy, fun and whimsical.”

The shoe designs have Naturalizer’s trademark comfortable fit (after all, beauty doesn’t have to  mean pain) and paired with Bromstad’s colorful artwork, they add that “pop of color” to any spring wardrobe. Just look at the heels on these wedges:

neila by bromstad for naturalizer wedgeNaturalizer was thrilled to partner with Bromstad because of his work with color and also because he brings in a strong fan base among women who are familiar with his work on HGTV. Not to mention his charming personality. I’m not gonna lie — he’s also pretty dreamy. Tall, dark and handsome, the way I like my shoes. Wait… that’s not quite right…

kim and david(Looks like we’re having a moment here but that’s probably just my magic photo editing.)

The Bromstad for Naturalizer shoe collection is available at Naturalizer stores, Naturalizer.com and select retail partners.  The accessories collection are available at Naturalizer retail stores and Naturalizer.com, including totes, cell phone cases, and handbags. My favorite was this white dome satchel, the “Vida,” which looks so calm and understated on the outside, but inside it has a secret burst of springtime:
