It’s easy to make jeans like these look far too casual, so be sure to add some stylish touches to bring the outfit up a notch. We love adding sneakers with a pop of a bright color to help keep things casual. While adding a gorgeous purse in a classic style will help keep the style elevated.

5 looks from head to toe

We teamed with one of our favorite moms Venessa Kaufman, founder of We The Classy to show our busy moms 5 Ultra-Stylish Day-to-Day looks with sneakers. Venessa is a mother of two toddlers, blogger, model, and a registered financial broker who is always on the go. All of us can relate to Venessa’s journey, finding a way to feel like yourself and be a mom. “I found that being stylish like my pre-baby self, while dressing functionally for my post-baby self has been a key component in determining how my day is going to go” says Venessa.

I think we can all agree with V when she says “that handling a tantrum on a staircase in stilettos is a hazard to anyone’s safety!” So for all of you girls who (pre-baby) were constantly running around in heels, this is for you! Using the same pair of New Balance sneakers we created 5 looks that are free of those traditional black yoga pants. If you don’t already own a pair, we strongly advises you to purchase a pair of neutral or monochromatic “sneakers” to accomplish these looks.

Secret Beauty Tip From Venessa:

Another obstacle I’ve encountered is having pretty manicured nails between giving baths and making dinners. Through trial and lots of error I have discovered two Essie nail colors that are both lovely and extremely fast drying. So fast that if you need to have your nails done for a night out you can throw on a coat as you step out the door with no fear, or even while sitting in the playroom with the kiddos.

IMG_5182The two colors are called Haute As Hello and Good As Gold. Both are worth their weight in gold to a busy stylish mama.

I strongly believe that part of being a good mom is being good to one’s self. Our kids learn from our actions. If we are kind to ourselves and are confident about our images as mothers, then they will learn how to be confident as well. You are someone’s idol.

We loved working with Venessa aka VNK. She is the sweetest! Thank you for having so much fun with us and sharing some of your tips. For more with VNK follow @wetheclassy

Because moms love their jeans

How many days of the week do you wear jeans? Three days? Five? All seven? Moms and jeans go together like, well, moms and jeans. Moms love jeans so much that they even have an entire jean category named after them (no, we aren’t suggesting you need actual mom jeans!). These jeans for moms are staples that you should have in your closet, no matter what your size, shape or style.

5 Pairs of jeans every mom needs in her closet
5 Pairs of Jeans Every Mom Needs in Her Closet
1. Boyfriend jeans

Boyfriend jeans are a casual style of jeans that are more than just a passing trend. They’re often a bit bigger and baggier than the jeans you typically wear and sometimes they even have that pre-loved look with strategically placed rips in just the right places.

Jeans for Moms- Boyfriend Jeans

But, just because they are casual, doesn’t mean that you should dress boyfriend jeans down. Pair them with some feminine flats and a pretty floral top to balance the style of the jeans or take it one step further, throwing them on with your sassiest heels!

(Pictured: 1969 Sexy Boyfriend Jeans, GAP, $70)

2. Colored jeans

These will likely be the trendiest pair of jeans in your closet because the color you choose can be seasonal — pastel colored jeans for spring, brighter colors and even neons for summer, rich jewel tones for fall and soft neutrals for winter.

Jeans for Moms- Colored Jeans

Colored jeans are such a fun way to add a pop of seasonal color to your wardrobe or to try out a color-of-the-moment (maybe in the latest Pantone Color of the Year?). Wear them with bold patterned tops for an outfit that makes a statement, or color block them with other solid pieces or pieces in the same color family to give a new look a try.

(Pictured: Women’s The Rockstar Mid-Rise Skinny Jeans, Old Navy, $35)

3. Skinny jeans

Let us make ourselves perfectly clear — skinny jeans mean different things to different moms and we embrace that. When we suggest that every mom should have skinny jeans in her closet, we mean that every mom needs a pair of jeans that is slim-fitting on her body. Find a pair that is slim-fitting through the entire leg of the jean and most importantly at the ankle — the signature piece of what makes a skinny jean a skinny jean.

Jeans for Moms- Skinny Jeans

Skinny jeans are incredibly versatile, especially if you buy them in a dark wash that will go with practically anything in your closet. Wear them with your favorite shoes  — from flats to wedges to those retro sneakers you adore — then pick a top shape that is flattering to go with them.

(Pictured: Charlie Skinny Jeans, Lucky Brand, $99)

4. Black jeans

If you’re going to invest in a pair of jeans, put your money into a pair of black jeans. Not only will you have them for years, but the more you spend on a pair of black jeans, the longer they will last and the less their color will fade. Buy them in whatever your favorite jean style may be, but we strongly suggest a simple, classic fit and style that will be timeless.

Jeans for Moms- Black Jeans

You can obviously dress up a pair of black jeans with a pair of heels and a cute blazer, but try taking them to the next level, too. Add some ankle boots and a casual v-neck tee for a completely different look. Or, use them as a base in your outfit for those animal prints that you can’t resist or for a pop of color that’s on-trend.

(Pictured: Paige Denim Skyline Skinny Jeans in Black Shadow, Nordstrom, $169)

5. Wide leg jeans

Wide leg jeans can be controversial, but we think they’re a must-have. Not only are they the perfect jean to wear with those espadrille wedges that you love, but they are actually quite flattering on all body types, especially if you pair them with the pieces that are right for you.

Jeans for Moms- Wide Leg Jeans

For moms who are short or petite, wearing wide leg jeans with wedges are a must to give you enough height to keep them from dragging on the ground. Moms who have more length to play with can pair them with flats for a soft, feminine look. All moms should consider what they wear as a top with wide leg jeans — try one that is more fitted to balance the wider shape of the bottom half of your outfit, which will make your waist look small.

Spring Fashion  2015

Come winter and we go crazy about all things layers and coats. But now that winter is passing by, we have bigger things on our mind, like: what will we be styling our spring and summer with. Fortunately the designers give us a sneak peek of trends that will be ruling the fashion world, way before the season even starts. So we have plenty of time to prep up our very own spring and summer collections.

As we take a look at the runways which define the upcoming season’s trend, it seems like designers have fused in everything, but obviously we can’t just get our hands on everything we see on runways. So here’s a compiled list of essentials you will need in the blooming spring.

1. Do it with Denim

Denims are no more a jacket or bottom staple. If you’re thinking of doing spring right, then you definitely need all things denim; from tops, skirts, pants, jackets and other bottoms. There was a denim party going on the runways for spring this year. There were coats, jumpsuits and in all types of denim, you name it, we saw it on the runway.

As for a general and more wearable option at least get all types of denim tops and embellished denim pants, for you will be needing them all in spring. However your pants are not sticking to your skin this season because the runways were filled more with roomy and loose fitting pants.

2. Buy the Brocades

Moving to bit formal options, brocade had us drooling. Dresses that subtly gleamed and were delicately fancy to make formal wear more elegant. Cutouts were a visible trend in almost every designer’s collection and so these brocade beauties had a fair share of cut outs. If you are thinking of buying an LBD for this spring, better buy it in brocade and you will look absolutely gorgeous and perfectly trendy.

3. Wear it Gingham Style

Just who doesn’t love the absolutely adorable ginghams? Reminds me of our family picnics and gets me all nostalgic. Well, good news for those who are tire or bold plaids; you can tone down the squares and wear it all gingham style. Wear them in some adorable spring colors like, powder blue or go monochrome with black and whites. Top to bottom ginghams are what you will be seeing a lot in the coming spring, so you better buy them now.

4. It Was All Yellow

When it comes to colors there is obviously a never ending list of pastels and bright hues. One color that ruled the spring runways was all shades of yellow. We actually loved how it felt like spring when it wasn’t even here yet. If you are looking for a particular color for your spring wardrobe, then yellow is a must have and you should get it in tops, dresses, skirt and everything you can fit the color in.

Quick tip: Keep your skirts flowing and pleated, they are a spring thing.

5. I See Eyelets

The eyelet or broderie anglaise cotton blouses and dresses made us feel that spring will be a whole lot soothing this year. The relaxing feel of these tops and dresses cannot just cut down the heat in spring but will also keep you ultra-stylish. The trend will be taking stores by a storm and will not just be seen in clothing but in bags too. So don’t wait till spring and get your eyelet tops you’ve been eyeing for so long.

I can go on with a list of 2015 spring staples but the ones I’ve compiled here are the most practical options for you to get your wardrobe ready for the coming season.

We have had quite a start to 2015! We were invited to the BodyLab Launch on Tuesday (January 6) in Santa Monica. We sat down with Jennifer Lopez and her partners, Chantelle Daines and Dr. Amy Heaton who showed us a look into their new lifestyle and fitness brand. Lopez looked absolutely flawless, wearing a Brunello Cucinelli champagne-colored low plunge sweater, with a Enza Costa tan wrap skirt that had a thigh-high slit paired with nude Louboutin pumps.

photo (11)

“I want to inspire women to be the best and happiest versions of themselves,” she said with excitement. J.Lo does it all and she wants to share her secret with woman to help them to become “the girl of their dreams!”

“Yes, I’m an entertainer and I’m a dancer,” Lopez explains, “But ladies, we’re all athletes. We all have that in us. We do things for our men, our children, our families, our careers. What we have to do, it’s like a marathon daily. Every single day.”

photo (10)

The 45-year-old (yes 45!) is the face and founder of the lifestyle and fitness brand, tailored for women. “I joined the BodyLab family not only because of their commitment to creating great health and fitness products for women, by women, but also because of their approach to the holistic lifestyle. It’s not a solution-in-a-bottle. It’s not a fad diet. It’s part of a health regimen that makes your metabolism work as hard as you do. It’s a way to love your body.”

We would have to agree with Lopez when she says “It’s like a marathon daily,” but it was relaxing to spend a few hours at the gorgeous Annenberg Beach House surrounded by inspiring woman drinking yummy protein smoothies! Lopez’s favorite is the chocolate protein!

New Years Eve Style Gold Lee Jeans
New Years Eve Style

Celebrating New Years Eve in style does not necessarily mean wearing a cocktail dress. For most of us we might be celebrating at a friend’s house or with family, so ringing in the New Year with your favorite pair of black skinny jeans can be done! In fact, I like keeping it casual and classy with black as the foundation of my New Years Eve outfit and then glam it up with the accessories. Gold and silver are always a New Years Eve favorite, I suggest you choose one or the other and then match your nails, makeup and clutch to play up the sparkle!

Choose a vintage looking lace top or something sparkly to pair with your black skinny jeans to feel festive and fashionable. Break out those sexy heels and wear a knock out statement necklace to instantly jazz up your look and one of the easiest ways to get in the party mood is with a fun manicure and pedicure.

Lee Jeans Easy Fit

I was sent a pair of the Lee Easy Fit skinny jeans and I have to tell you, they are as comfortable as my yoga pants. They go on so smooth and make me feel like I am wearing leggings but with the look of jeans. What I love is that they do not gap in the waist and they have a slimming effect! I love that I can dress these up with heels and a sparkly top or wear them with an oversized cardigan and stylish winter boots or ankle wedges.

Lee Black Skinny Jeans Easy Fit

For me and many moms finding a great pair of fitting jeans at a savvy price can be a challenge. I’m all about style, quality, price and comfort. If it meets all four of those things then I have a winner!

Breaking the fashion rules

Wearing white in winter doesn’t make us fashion rebels, by any means, but there is a difference in wearing white before and after Labor Day… we’ll give one that to the style experts! We’ve picked some of our favorite winter white style finds to help you discover pieces you’ll love and that will turn wearing white in winter into a fashion must, rather than a fashion faux pas.

12 Winter white styles

Winter White Styles

1. Shaker-Stitch Layered Pullover, Banana Republic, $80
These cropped sweaters with a longer, sheer hem are a must-have in your winter wardrobe and if you can grab one in white, like this one from Banana Republic, you’ll definitely hit the winter white style trend.

2. Faribault for Target Wool Infinity Scarf, Target, $45
If you’re hesitant to wear too much white in winter, add a winter white accessory instead like this soft, pretty scarf from Target’s newest designer collection.

3. Piperlime Collection Pearl Shoulder Pullover Sweater, Piperlime, $98
This sweater is so pretty and we can’t imagine it in any other but white! The pearl-adorned shoulders are a glam touch and the extra-fuzzy sweater make it dressier than your average pullover.

4. Daisylace Shift, Anthropologie, $168
A bit off-beat for winter wear, we love the way Anthropologie styled this white dress, which you can use in your wardrobe year-round. Add a pair of dark tights and your favorite ankle boots to bring a summer white dress into wintertime!

5. Helly Hansen Midsund Rain Boot, Nordstrom, $60
For a more casual winter white style, these white rain boots are fun and sassy. Wear them with dark or colored skinny jeans… or just with a pair of leggings and your casual wear to grab the kiddos from school or to run weekend errands. However, we can’t guarantee how long they’ll stay white…

6. Women’s Crew-Neck Sweater, Old Navy, $12
Adding a touch of black trim to your winter white style makes it more approachable for this season. This white sweater from Old Navy is on sale and almost sold out, so grab one while you still can!

7. Patagonia Ahnya Dress, Zappos, $80
Dress down your winter white style with this sporty dress! Add those to-die-for fleece-lined tights or leggings that are a winter must-have and your favorite pair of cozy winter boots for a cool outfit you’ll wear over and over again this winter.

8. All Over Downtown Top, ModCloth, $35
This is the sweetest little top in winter white with a touch of detailing that takes it from plain to stylish with ease. Add a pretty, delicate necklace and you’re set for winter white style.

9. Awe-Inspiring Assistant Top, ModCloth, $40
Super chic, yet comfortable, this ModCloth blouse will go with so much you already have in your closet. It’s perfectly over-sized for a cool fit that you can pair with skinny jeans or textured pants this winter.

10. The Slim Boyjean: Carpenter Edition, Madewell, $125
You might think we’re crazy for suggesting white jeans in winter, but hear us out… Add a cool pair of heels and a patterned top in a rich color (maybe Pantone Marsala?) and you’ll instantly make a summer wardrobe staple a winter favorite.

11. The North Face Tonnerro Jacket, REI, $200
There’s something so perfect about a cozy, white puffy coat in the winter, isn’t there? We love adding winter white style into your outerwear wardrobe and it’s likely the easiest way to get started.

12. Ella Skirt, Boden, $140
A fun and festive skirt that will be cute for the holidays and beyond, a white skirt is a fun addition to your winter wardrobe, especially when it comes in a heavier material, like this one.

Staying cozy and stylish with Pure Jill

Pure Jill

While I’m hardly new to J.Jill (my mom is likely their biggest fan!), admittedly this was the first time that I’d ventured onto their website to look for something for myself. Going straight to their newest collection, Pure Jill, I found myself swimming in cozy sweaters, classic silhouettes and soft, natural colors that had my mind racing with outfit ideas. I automatically paired one of their sweaters with their leggings, knowing I could take my new outfit in a million directions — maybe with my tall riding boots and a long necklace or my favorite studded flats and my biggest knit scarf? Endless fashion possibilities… even a few that my J.Jill loving mom would approve of!

I love the philosophy that J.Jill has about their collections, that they strive to make getting dressed uncomplicated. Does that mean that their clothes are boring? Not in the least. Using only the best materials, fabrics and finishes, the Pure Jill collection is uncomplicated, for sure, but also timeless and easy-to-wear and just plain gorgeous.

Every single piece in this collection are the ones that you will have in your wardrobe for years. They are the pieces that will outlast trends as they come-and-go and that you’ll pull out of your closet, after months of not wearing them, and get that comforting feeling as you slip it on, just like grabbing coffee with an old friend.

Psst! I found that J.Jill runs a bit larger than other brands I wear. I’d suggest ordering down a size!

Dressing up the Carpool with Lee Curvy Fit Fashion PLaid Scarf
Dressing up the Carpool with Lee Jeans

We are super excited to bring back “Dressing up the Carpool” for the fall and winter season!  This is a feature we love to share because it helps inspire Moms get out of their clothing funk and step it up a bit. Whether it’s your day for the carpool, driving to playdates or attending the PTA meeting we want you to do it in comfort and style.

Lee Curvy Fit Collection

Jeans are essential and are pretty much my mom uniform, with so many varieties in cuts, shades and styles you can literally have a pair for every day of the week (and I do).  So when Lee Jeans asked me to give their curvy fit denim a try I jumped at the chance. Lee Curvy Fit is for women who know how to embrace their curves. Designed with a modern low-rise front and higher back rise, adding a little curve appeal to your wardrobe has never been easier.

I chose the Curvy Fit Alanna BootCut, these are a more casual everyday look that look great with your fall sweaters, jackets and scarves. What I liked the most about these jeans is that they did not gap in the back.  I have a small waist and a little booty in the back so gaping is an issue for me. These are gap free and they stretched a bit after wearing them a few times. Now they fit like a glove when I put them on!

Pair these jeans with a field jacket, plaid scarf and a great pair of ankle boots and you’re ready to go!

Shop the Look

Field Jacket ($91), Oversized Sweater ($54), Lee Curvy Fit Jeans ($34), Plaid Scarf ($25), Shoulder Bag ($18), Ankle Boots ($89)

Dressing up the Carpool Lee Jeans Cardigan

Curvy Fit Benefits

  • Tilted rise that is lower in the front and higher in the back keeps you covered confidently
  • Unique pattern shape gives the appearance of a slimmer silhouette.
  • No-gap Waistband bends with you while hugging your curves.
  • Shape Memory denim adapts to your body and keeps its shape all day.

Lee Jeans has a variety of dark denim washes and they’re always a favorite of mine because they slim you down and you can easily dress them up. I chose the Lee Curvy Fit Paxton Jeans and I went down a size, but I should have stayed with my true size. (These have stretch but by going down a size they were a little too tight;) I love the overall cut of these jeans the softness of the Shape Memory fabric, they really hug your curves!
