Help a Mother out in MAY!

In Baby, Kids by savvysassymoms1 Comment

This year Mother’s Day is May 9th and while most of us will be getting cute home made cards, breakfast in bed and maybe even pampered at a spa.  Some mothers will be worried about having enough diapers to get through the day.

Help a Mother Out will be celebrating the entire month of May both by raising diapers and awareness of this basic human need.  Saturday night hubby and I will be attending  Kim Tracy Prince’s Date Night Diaper Drive! We will be getting wine & cheese and a night out with adults in exchange for diapers, sounds like a fair trade to me!   Check out all the people hosting events over at her blog House of Prince and the Month Long Diaper Drive.

Can you imagine not having enough diapers for your baby?  Did you know that diapers are not covered under safety net programs like food stamps or WIC? For many families in crisis this can mean being forced to choose between affording other basic human needs — shelter, food, medicine, or diapers.

Help a Mother Out does a great job of  explaining the situation in Diapers 101 which includes the cloth diaper arguement; Most laundromats do NOT allow you to wash cloth diapers. If you are poor, you probably don’t own a washing machine and most licensed daycare centers (especially free or subsidized) do not accept cloth diapers. Parents must provide disposable diapers.

How you can help?1.  ATTEND one of the sponsored events!

2. Collect Diapers: You cans set up a diaper drive at your children’s school, work, place of worship, community group, parenting group, sports team or even just around the neighborhood.

3.  Pass It On: Share this information with others and if you have a blog share it with your readers or do a blog post just like this in the month of May.
